What Is a Short Term Missionary?

A short-term missionary is someone who goes on a short-term mission trip. Short-term mission trips are unique in that they afford any layperson the opportunity to travel to new places as missionaries and evangelize.

While some training is usually necessary before embarking on a short-term mission, the amount of schooling and education for doing short-term missions work is far less than the older, traditional model of attending seminary to become a full-time career missionary.

Both short-term and long-term missionaries are useful to sharing the Gospel throughout the world and building a strong global church that glorifies God.

A short-term missionary can often bring added energy and passion to a project that a long-term missionary cannot realistically sustain.

However, short-term missionaries need to be partnering with long-term missionaries, in order to ensure that follow-up is done after the mission trip is over.
